A Glamping Experience at Glen Oro Farm without the Mosquitoes

My most recent event for work was to host Camp Thermacell at beautiful Glen Oro Farm about an hour and a half from Toronto, Ontario. I’ve actually never had a glamping experience before, so I was excited to stay in a safari tent. To ensure our guests weren’t bothered by the ubiquitous mosquitoes in the Ontario woods, we brought our Thermacell mosquito repellers to create a zone of defense. Read on to hear about how we created a fabulous glamping experience without the mosquitoes!

Glen Oro has safari tents and Stargazer domes for glamping.

Glen Oro Farm, located about 140 km from downtown Toronto, has safari tents and stargazer domes available. Our staff stayed in the safari tents while guests enjoyed the domes, which have a transparent roof and side to see the stars at night and enjoy the woods during the day. The safari tents were comfortable and also had great views of the forest. All units have a private fire pit, sitting area inside and outside, and come with everything you could need for a glamping adventure. I would happily have extended my glamping experience through the summer!

The Food

Mosquito Meltdown: Signature Cocktail.

Our signature cocktail was the Mosquito Meltdown, a light and refreshing summer beverage. Luckily, since we’d created a zone free of mosquitoes, we could all sip our cocktails in peace on the outdoor patio at Glen Oro’s main cabin and nobody had an actual meltdown. The food was delicious and cooked over an open fire – which is a novelty in itself. Everyone raved about the tasty kebabs with pita, hummus, and tzatziki for lunch, salmon, short ribs, and mac and cheese for dinner, and eggs benedict for breakfast. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything more complicated than hotdogs and marshmallows cooked on an open flame.

Keeping Things Free of Mosquitoes

The tiny E55 rechargeable Thermacell keeping mosquitoes away.

Nothing ruins an outdoor experience like a mosquito buzzing in your ear or biting your ankles. A question we frequently get about Thermacell mosquito repellers is – do they actually work? Camp Thermacell was a chance to demonstrate you can have a glamping experience without the mosquitoes if you have the right products on your trip. The Thermacells did their job and at the end of the event everyone confirmed they had zero mosquito bites. Mission accomplished!

We have been using Thermacell on our deck with guests and it made a really big difference.
